Uganda takes the first step towards integrating the circular economy model into its national strategy. The East African country launched its circular economy roadmap on January 31, 2023 in the capital Kampala. The document aims to stimulate sustainable growth and green industrialization, in line with Uganda’s national « Vision 2040 » program.

Italy-Africa Summit: Rome backs « Green Cities for Africa » initiative
At the Italy-Africa summit in Rome on January 29, 2024, the Italian government announced a 5.5 billion euro investment plan to support development in Africa. This support will include renewable energies, energy efficiency projects, water and sanitation. This will be done in line with the provisions of the joint « Green Cities for Africa » project.
LIBERIA: a campaign to assess fish stocks, for sustainable fishing
A scientific prospecting campaign was launched on January 26, 2024 at the fishing port of Monrovia, the capital of Liberia. The initiative, coordinated by the Ministerial Conference on Fisheries Cooperation among African States bordering the Atlantic Ocean (COMHAFAT), involves assessing fish stocks in Liberia’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), with a view to sustainable fishing.
NIGER: Uranium operator Somida on trial again for pollution
The trial on the merits of the Agadez civil society case against Somida opened on Wednesday January 31, 2024 before the Niamey High Court. The company, which operates a uranium mine in northern Niger, is once again accused of polluting the environment and negatively impacting the health of local residents. The case is due to be heard on March 6, 2024.
